Weather & Clothing

Winter in our area is mild but it can get cold. Winter is from May to the end of July and warm clothing is recommended for these months. Temperatures in the morning can be anything from 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit or 1-5 degrees Celsius but it warms up to 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 degrees Celsius during the day. November to February is summer time and temperatures can go up to 115 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius on an average day

Dark colored clothes like khaki or green is recommended. Camouflaged clothes are legal in South Africa so feel free to bring what you feel comfortable with. Laundry is done on a daily basis, so you don't have to bring too much. 3 sets of clothes are enough for an average safari of 7-10 days.

Health

South Africa is a very safe country. We have got some of the best medical facilities in the world. Good doctors and medical attention are available in case of an emergency. The main camp is in a malaria area and it is advised to take the necessary medication prior to your safari just as a precaution. It is always wise to bring your personal prescription medicine. A good sun block and insect repellent is very handy when you are on safari in Africa.

Travel

Clients fly into OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Our professional staff will meet you in the arrivals lobby. We will assist you through the process of obtaining your rifle and rifle permits. After taking care of all the necessary paperwork and permits we will transport you to the main camp.

Currency

The South-African money currency is called Rand and Cent and consists of coins and notes. The coins come in 5, 10, 20, 50 cents and in 1, 2 and 5 rand coins. The notes come in 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 rand notes. Money can be exchanged at the airport or in the town closest to the camp

Guns & Permits

Popular calibers for South Africa is the 30-06, 300 WM, 338 and 375 HH. Every client can import only two rifles and not more than one of the same caliber is allowed. No automatic or semi-automatic rifles or handguns are allowed in South Africa. Only 80 rounds per caliber are allowed. Shotgun shells can be bought in South-Africa. The minimum caliber for hunting dangerous game like hippo, lion, buffalo, rhino and elephant is a 375.

Necessary paperwork for importing rifles

  • A custom declaration form (#4457) must be completed by every client. This form can be obtained from Customs in your country.
  • Upon arrival in South Africa, a firearm permit will be issued to you. To speed up the process, we will forward the application form to you (SAP 520). This application form can also be downloaded from the following website: www.saps.gov.za. Pre-issued firearm permits can be arranged.
  • We will forward an Invitation letter to you as this is needed for your firearm permit.
  • Only applicants older than 21 years can apply for a firearm permit.
